Office 2007

It’s good to see that it’s not just me who thinks Office 2007 is lame. From LifeHacker:

I’ve only played with Office 2007 for a day or two, and my first impressions of the extreme interface changes is that they’re clunky, distracting and bloated.

According to my blog entry, I lasted just 2 days using Outlook 2007. Even with my new laptop which is a 2GHz Dual-Core with 2gb RAM, it was painfully slow and I reverted back to Office 2003.

As revolutionary as the ribbon may be, it can also be a pain in the butt. I spent about 10 minutes trying to find out how to remove the password from an MDB file in Access 2007, and eventually ended up using Access 2003. Even the help system was useless. Give me a menu any time.

I’m not going to be upgrading, though I hope Office 2003 works fine with Vista.

Adobe Reader Security Flaw

Seems like there’s a major security flaw in previous versions of Adobe Reader.

Writing about the flaw Symantec security researcher Hon Lau said: “The ease [with] which this weakness can be exploited is breathtaking.”

I’ve always thought Adobe Reader is a piece of rubbish, and moved to FoxIt Reader a while ago, though it didn’t support fillable forms. But with the release of FoxIt reader 2.0 which now has this feature, there’s no reason to even install Adobe Reader.

Once you’ve used FoxIt, you won’t be able to go back. It’s a small 1.5mb download, and doesn’t even need to be installed.
